Why we need Revival. Part 2

July 14, 2024

Psalm 85:1–9 (NLT) 1 Lord, you poured out blessings on your land! You restored the fortunes of Israel. 2 You forgave the guilt of your people— yes, you covered all their sins. Interlude 3 You held back your fury. You kept back your blazing anger. 4 Now restore us again, O God of our salvation. Put aside your anger against us once more. 5 Will you be angry with us always? Will you prolong your wrath to all generations?

6 Won’t you revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you? 7 Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. 8 I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways. 9 Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, so our land will be filled with his glory.

Review from Part 1

Psalms 85 Verse 3 says, “Won’t you revive us again?”

“Will you not Revive us again?”

This tells me that Revival was there but eventually lost.

Revival is not an Event, Church Meetings or Gatherings.

Charles G. Finney wrote:

Revival is renewed conviction of sin and repentance,

followed by an intense desire to live in obedience to God.

It is giving up ones will to God in deep humility.

Revival is A Fresh Wind of the Holy Spirit upon His People.

A Breath of Fresh Air:       -To your Faith

                                             -To your Passion for God

-That gives Joy to serve and live for God.

We need Sustained Revival. Revival that continues and not end.

In verses 1-3 we see that God had Revived His people.

Something happened between verse 3 and 4:

People went back to their old ways.

Forgot the favor and goodness of God.

Why do we need Revival?

  1. We get Divertred
  2. We get Dissapointed.
  3. The Loss of Joy.

Part 2: Why do we need Revival?

4. The Work of God is Hindered

    The Work is Hindered.

We have Stop answering the Call of God.

    When a Christian gets:

Diverted, Disappointed, and Loses their Joy:

The Work of God is Hindered.

We Stop Answering the Call of God upon our Life.

Ezra had to remind the People of God:

Ezra 9:9 (NLT) For we were slaves, but in his unfailing love our God did not abandon us in our slavery. Instead, he caused the kings of Persia to treat us favorably (extend mercy). He revived us so we could rebuild the Temple of our God and repair its ruins. He has given us a protective wall in Judah and Jerusalem.

The Children of Israel were released from Slavery in Babylon and returned home to Jerusalem.

Ezra had just found out that:

The Children of Israel and their leaders, the priests, and Levites,

    -Did Not Separated themselves,

from following the gods of the other nations.

-They even took wives from the pagan nations and

gave their children to marry within these other nations.

They got Distracted, Unfocused, with Worldly Pursuits.

Ezra 9:1–2 (NLT) 1 When these things had been done, the Jewish leaders came to me and said, “Many of the people of Israel, and even some of the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the other peoples living in the land. They have taken up the detestable practices of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites. 2 For the men of Israel have married women from these people and have taken them as wives for their sons. So the holy race has become polluted by these mixed marriages. Worse yet, the leaders and officials have led the way in this outrage.”

    Ezra had to Remind them:

They were slaves at one time.

Because of God’s love and mercy (favor) the Persians let them free.

God Revived them for a Purpose:

… He revived us so we could rebuild the

Temple of our God and repair its ruins. …

They were Revived to Continue the Work of God.

Today the Work of God is to Build the Church:

-By Spreading the Good News to lost souls.

-By making Disciples who are strong in the Lord.

We have Stop answering the Call of God.

Its Time to Plant Churches Again.

    It’s time to Evangelize Again.

Ps. 85:6-9 (NLT) 6 Won’t you revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you? 7 Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. 8 I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways. 9 Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, so our land will be filled with his glory.

    It’s time for Dicipleship Again.

Matthew 28:19–20 (NIV) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Our Calling is not separate from our relationship with God.

Why do we need Revival?    The Work of God is Hindered!

We need to Get Unstuck, Unhindered:

1. Separate yourself from the World.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

    The Israelites tried to:

Copy the pagan people around them.

Be like the pagan people around them.

Then ended up in slavery to the people they tried to be like.

The World will never satisfy you.

Once you have tasted the love of God,

you will never be able to fit in again with the world.

2 Corinthians 6:14–18 (NLT) 14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. 18 And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

2. Seek after God’s Heart.

God’s heart is for souls to be saved.

1 Timothy 2:4–6 (NLT) 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 5 For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.

God wants Treasures in Darkness to be saved.

Isaiah 45:2–3 (NKJV) 2 ‘I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron. 3 I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.

God wants your family to be saved.

David was a man after God’s heart.

Acts 13:22 (NLT) But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’

David was not perfect but he deisred to Please God.

When you seek to please and obey God,

You build you house on the Rock, Sold Ground

When you do what you think is best,

You build your house on sand, Shacky ground

Matthew 7:24–27 (NLT) 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Let’ Seek after God’s Heart and Desire the Will of God.

3. Say “yes” to the Call of God on your Life.

Matthew 4:18–22 (NLT) 18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him. 21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

God is rainsing up a last Days Fishers of Men:

Mark 16:15 (NLT) And then he told them,

“Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.

You are called to Go, Send, or be a Spedialist

4. Pray

Matthew 9:35–10:1 (NLT) 35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” 1 Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.
