Our Father in Heaven

Our Father in Heaven

June 15, 2025

Matthew 6:9–13 (NKJV) 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

1 Timothy 2:8 (ESV) I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.

God is the perfect Father:

    Omnipresent: Always There for you.

Omniscient: He knows all your fears, worries and concerns.

Omnipotent: He can do anything for you.

Immutable: He does not change. His promises are Yes and Amen.

Faithful: We can depend and Trust in God.

Some people may …

Not not have a good example of a father as a child.

        Have had an abusive father.

        Have had an absent father.

God says to you if you did not have a good father:

Psalm 27:10 (NIV) Though my father and mother forsake me,

                                             the LORD will receive me.

God says to Mothers who are raising children without a father around.

Psalm 68:5 (ESV) 5 Father of the fatherless and

protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

God is not “Like” a father. He IS FATHER.

To know what a true father is … Look to God the Father:

In the Bible you will see that God the Father is …

Faithful, True, Just, Merciful, Compassionate, Slow to Anger,

        Loving, Affectionate, Providing, Patient, Kind.

The Father in Heaven:

a. Loves you.

John 3:16 (NKJV) — 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 5:8 (NKJV) — 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

b. Cares about you.

God Cares about the birds; how much more does He care about you?

Matthew 6:26 (NKJV) — 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

c. Wants to take away your fears and worries.

Matthew 6:34 (NKJV) Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Men in the Church, Rise up and take your place in the House of God.

1 Timothy 2:8 (ESV) I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray using this model of Prayer.

This prayer Reveals several key aspects that are Important to God the Father.

1. We are to Worship God the Father and Reverence Him.

Matthew 6:9 (NKJV) 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

    Regard Him as Holy.

        Holy means separated,

God is different from anything, any person, or any place.

We are to desire Him over all things.

Psalm 73:25–26 (NLT) 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. 26 My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.

2. God’s Will is Priority.

Matthew 6:10 (NKJV) Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

God’s Will, is related to God’s Purpose and Design:

There are two forms of God’s will:

    a. God’s sovereign plan that will always happen:

It will come to pass no matter what.

        It cannot be changed.

Ex. It was God’s plan and will that Jesus Die on the Cross for our sins.

Acts 2:23–24 (NIV) 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

    b. God’s desire.

        It does not always happen.

It is dependent on human obedience.

We find God Will by looking in the Bible:

Psalm 119:9–11 (NLT) 9 How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. 10 I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119:105 (NLT) Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

When you let God’s will be done in your life,

You allow God’s Purpose and Design for you to be fulfilled.

Ephesians 2:10 (ESV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

When you don’t function in God’s will:

You are out of whack.

Not in Tune.

Life is not fulfilled.

Men in the Church, Rise up and take your place in the House of God.

1 Timothy 2:8 (ESV) I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.

We must obey God’s Will no matter the outcome.

    Example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

Daniel 3:14–19 (NLT) 14 Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? 15 I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments. But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?” 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” 19 Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.

Put God first in your Life:

Matthew 6:33 (ESV) But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

It is God’s will that we Love God and Love People:

Matthew 22:36–40 (NKJV) 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Love lost souls:

1 Timothy 2:4–6 (ESV) 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
