1 Peter 1:13–16 (NLT) 13 So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”
Peter was writing to Scattered Christians who were suffering persecution and pressure from the godless culture they lived in.
They were suffering because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
Instead of comforting them with an easy way out
or some easy compromises:
-Peter challenges them to Holiness.
1 Peter 1:15–16 (NLT) 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”
-Peter gets their eyes off their problems, trials and situation.
He gets them to focus on God’s Character.
God’s Character is,
He is Holy, Pure,
He is not contaminated by anything unrighteous or defiled.
“Holy” (Gk. Hágios)means,
to be set apart,
to be separated for God’s exclusive use.
You may think to yourself, this is not easy to do, this is too hard for me.
How can I Be Holy like God is Holy?
There are Two aspects of Holiness:
This is also called Sanctification. (The doctrine of Sanctification)
When a person becomes a Christian:
1. You BECOME Holy, Sanctified. You Are Holy.
That is your position before God.
Hebrews 10:10 (NLT) For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT) Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
2. You are becoming Holy, becoming Sanctified.
Holiness is being worked out in your daily life.
You are in the Process of Sanctification, Becoming Holy.
1 Thessalonians 4:7–8 (NIV) 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit Helps you and Empowers you
to Become the person God intended you to be.
Why is this important?
We are Legacy Carries.
Victory Outreach is a Last Day Ministry that is called to reach the World.
God raised up Pastor Sonny A. Sr. and gave Him a vision for the World.
The Vision does not end with Pastor Sonny Sr.
We must carry the Legacy that has been handed down to us.
This Vision has been transmitted to us,
and we must continue to transmit this Vision to the next generation:
The Vision to reach souls, hurting people all over the world.
If we don’t, We will loose our sons and daughter to the world.
Psalm 78:4–8 (NLT) 4 We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. 5 For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, 6 so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. 7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.
8 Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
That is Why Holiness is so important.
A quality we need to have to Continue this Legacy.
We need to re-dedicate ourselves back to:
God, Prayer, and Fasting.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
