Fall at Jesus’ Feet!

Ten Lepers.

Luke 17:11–19 (NLT) 11 As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. 12 As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, 13 crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. 15 One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” 16 He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.”

Leprosy was considered an incurable skin disease.

A person with leprosy lived an isolated and humiliating life:

Leviticus 13:45–46 (ESV) 45 “The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and

he shall cover his upper lip and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean.’

46 He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease. He is unclean. He shall live alone. His dwelling shall be outside the camp.

These 10 lepers must have heard about Jesus and His miracles.

They may have wondered if they would ever get a chance to meet Him.

All of a sudden, they see Jesus!

v. 14. The Miracle Happens:

14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.

    -Jesus looked at them: He knows who you are.

    -Jesus tells them to show themselves to the priests:

        This was the ceremonial law they had to follow:

Leviticus 14:2–4 (NLT) 2 “The following instructions are for those seeking ceremonial purification from a skin disease. Those who have been healed must be brought to the priest, 3 who will examine them at a place outside the camp. If the priest finds that someone has been healed of a serious skin disease, 4 he will perform a purification ceremony, using two live birds that are ceremonially clean, a stick of cedar, some scarlet yarn, and a hyssop branch.

    -As they Obeyed what Jesus told them, the Lepers were Healed.

1. Ten lepers were healed. Only one came back to Thank Jesus.

Luke 17:15–16 (NLT) 15 One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!”

16 He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.

    They all had faith to be healed.

        Only one comes back to Praise God.

    Many people get saved, healed, delivered,

        but only a few come to church to praise God.

    Only one leper had the True Posture of Worship; falling at the Feet of Jesus.

        This is a Sign of:    Humility,

                                      Gratefulness,

                                      Recognizing who Jesus is, God.

2. Jesus sees (notices) who comes to Him and who does not.

Luke 17:17-18 (NLT) 17 Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

    I want to be one of those whom Jesus notices who come to thank Him.

    Only a foreigner came to Jesus, a Samaritan.

        Jews did not like the Samaritans.

        Jews thought they were superior to Samaritans.

    Most people want the miracle, the blessing, without the relationship.     

    Jesus is paying attention because you are important to Him.

Psalm 139:1–6 (NLT) 1 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!

Psalm 139:16–18 (NLT) 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

    You cannot hide from God. He sees and knows everything.

3. Jesus speaks to those who come to Him.

Luke 17:19 (NLT) And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go.

               Your faith has healed you (NKJV: made you well).”

    The other 9 lepers who were healed:

        -Did not hear Jesus’ voice.

        -Did not stop to spend time to fellowship with Jesus.

        -Just followed the Ceremonial, Religious Law.

               They were Religious.

Luke 17:14 (NLT) He looked at them and said,

“Go show yourselves to the priests.”

And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.

        -Only got what they needed from Jesus at the moment.

    Grateful people receive:

        True Riches, Fresh blessings.

        All ten were healed from leprosy,

        But only one was both healed from leprosy and saved from sin.

Let’s Be People who fall at Jesus’ Feet with thanksgiving and praise!

    -Seek Him in Prayer.

Matthew 26:41 (ESV) Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Colossians 4:2 (NLT) Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

1 Thessalonians 5:16–19 (NIV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit.

    -Seek Him in the Word of God.

Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

1 Peter 2:2–3 (NKJV) 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

    -Seek Him when difficult times come.

        Depend on the Promises from God:

Isaiah 43:2–3 (NLT) 2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. 3 For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom; I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your place.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

Romans 8:28 (NIV) And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

    -Seek Him in Doing God’s Will.

Titus 2:11–14 (NIV) 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

    God is with us when we are about our Father’s business.

Matthew 28:19–20 (NIV) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
