Grasp the Resurrection
4-20-2025
Matthew 16:21–23 (NLT) 21 From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead. 22 But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!” 23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”
Luke 9:22 (NLT) 22 “The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things,” he said. “He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
Luke 18:31–34 (NLT) 31 Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said, “Listen, we’re going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true. 32 He will be handed over to the Romans, and he will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon. 33 They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.” 34 But they didn’t understand any of this. The significance of his words was hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about.
Resurrection Sunday (Easter) is the
Greatest and most Important celebrations of the Christian faith.
Easter is not about bunnies, eggs, and chocolate.
Easter Sunday and the Resurrection is about:
-Jesus Defeating Death and Rising from the Grave.
-Jesus proves He is the Savior of the World and King of Kings.
-Jesus defeating the greatest enemy. “Death”.
Like the Disciples,
-We don’t always understand what Jesus did for us.
-We take for granted what Jesus did for us.
The Resurrection of Jesus:
1. Give Life:
Ephesians 2:5–6 (NLT) 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
The Resurrection of Jesus:
2. Shows God’s Love for you.
Romans 5:6–8 (NIV) 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Isaiah 53:4–5 (NIV) 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
The more you discover how much Jesus loves you,
The more faith and trust you Have To Step Out and Obey His Word.
Hebrews 12:2–3 (NIV) 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
The Resurrection of Jesus:
3. Gives Living Hope:
1 Peter 1:3 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
When you have Hope, it means:
You can Look ahead.
You can see past your problems and circumstances.
You know everything is going to be alright.
You know you will have Victory.
a. Hope for New Life:
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a
new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have
become new.
b. Hope for Forgiveness of Sins:
Romans 3:23–24 (NIV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:23 (NIV) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Forgiveness Take Away Guilt and Shame.
c. Hope for Freedom:
Set you Free from Sin and Bondage.
You no longer have to live the way you used to live.
John 8:36 (NIV) So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Galatians 5:1 (NLT) So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure
that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
d. Hope for Heaven:
Remember The Thief on the Cross
Luke 23:42–43 (NKJV) 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember
me when You come into Your kingdom.” 43 And Jesus said to him,
“Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
