Psalm 126:1–6 (ThePassionTranslation) 1 It was like a dream come true when you freed us from our bondage and brought us back to Zion! 2 We laughed and laughed and overflowed with gladness. We were left shouting for joy and singing your praise. All the nations saw it and joined in, saying, “The Lord has done great miracles for them!” 3 Yes, he did mighty miracles and we are overjoyed! 4 Now, Lord, do it again! Restore us to our former glory! May streams of your refreshing flow over us until our dry hearts are drenched again. 5 Those who sow their tears as seeds will reap a harvest with joyful shouts of glee. 6 They may weep as they go out carrying their seed to sow, but they will return with joyful laughter and shouting with gladness as they bring back armloads of blessing and a harvest overflowing!
Psalm 126:1–6 (NIV) 1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. 2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” 3 The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. 4 Restore our fortunes Lord, like streams in the Negev. 5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. 6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
Psalms 126 is a Psalm of Joyful Singing, Gratefulness and Thanksgiving.
It portrays how the Jewish People left their 70 years of Bondage in Babylon.
They Joyfully returned home to Jerusalem after 70 years of struggle and hardships.
In verses 1-2, we see their Joy and Praise to the Lord:
Psalm 126:1–2 (ThePassionTranslation) 1 It was like a dream come true when you freed us from our bondage and brought us back to Zion! 2 We laughed and laughed and overflowed with gladness. We were left shouting for joy and singing your praise. All the nations saw it and joined in, saying, “The Lord has done great miracles for them!”
When a person is genuinely saved, it produces and triggers, a Joyful song in your heart.
David said,
Psalm 13:5–6 (NIV) 5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.
The Psalmist wrote:
Psalm 100:4–5 (NIV) 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
The Jewish people’s Joy, Praise, Singing, and Thanksgiving were so evident:
-That it Became Contagious.
-It Caused the ungodly people to notice.
The ungodly Join in and Sang with Praise to the Lord.
Psalm 126:2 ((ThePassionTranslation) … All the nations saw it and joined in, saying, “The Lord has done great miracles for them!”
It’s time for God’s People to Influence the World and Not Be Influenced by the World.
1 John 2:15–17 (NLT) 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
Do It Again:
In Verse 4, Those who have experienced being saved from captivity, ask God to Do It Again.
Psalm 126:4 (ThePassionTranslation) Now, Lord, do it again! Restore us to our former glory! May streams of your refreshing flow over us until our dry hearts are drenched again.
The Past Pain and Suffering the Jews experienced fueled them to Invest in present and future hurting people.
